October is such a busy month...

Ok, this is weird...big blank screen. If I click on 'publish' will this so-called entry land on my blog?? Time for a monthly (lol) update....

Aunt Kathy's Walkers 3! participated in the annual fundraising walk 'Making Strides Against Breast Cancer', sponsored by The American Cancer Society. We had a very good year. We raised about $1,700 so far with a few donations yet to materialize. We had fewer walkers this year due to many reasons but we were there!!!!

Well, well, well....how ABOUT those Boston Red Sox???? OMG, I could hardly breathe it was sooooo exciting! I'm still in a bit of disbelief. I'd say that the curse of the bambino has finally been broken. And it was interesting how quiet it was in NYC after the Yankees lost. Bwa ha ha.

The wedding....the black tie wedding....*deep breath*. It was nothing like I'd ever seen before. Yes, most men wore tuxedoes. First, at 8:30pm, there was a huge huge buffet...caviar, Greek, Italian, Chinese, sushi, roasts, everything. Open bar. BUT, the Chinese spare ribs were mystery meat as this was a Jewish wedding & they don't eat pork. And if you asked for 'red wine', you got ??. I had to be careful to request Cabernet, which they quickly ran out of. *eyes rolling*
Then the ceremony which was very nice except that I needed to pee soo sooo soooooo badly that I almost left before they were done.
Dinner was the pits. The waitstaff was absurd - took our orders (choice of salmon or prime rib) but couldn't serve properly. The prime rib just was NOT prime. And it was served at midnight - maybe later. But then there was a Viennese style dessert - imagine the hugest buffet dessert ever. There was even a cotton candy maker. Tons of fancy desserts. Heaven! And it was 1:30 in the morning.
Then a friend came over saying I hadn't danced all night, so get up & let's go. Then she asked dh why he didn't dance with me. He said, "she doesn't dance." I said, "you never asked." *sigh*
We left about 2:15am. What a nice night out!!
The dress....the dresses, lol. I found on a sale rack a very nice black velvet number that wasn't quite floor length but had sheer stuff hanging to the floor. It had rhinestones around the low neckline. BUT, the cranberry floor length arrived. It fit. It looked good. It was comfortable! I literally ran to the tailor to get it hemmed a smidge. So now I own 2 dresses, lol. I'm planning to wear the black one to a big birthday bash this weekend. Maybe ~ if I'm brave enough. Self esteem just ain't my thing.

The weekend of Oct. 29-30, we went to Tarrytown & Sleepy Hollow, NY for Legend Weekend. Historic Hudson Valley: https://www.hudsonvalley.org/ and Legend Weekend: https://www.hudsonvalley.org/web/events_October.html. This is a wonderful family destination. It's about 1-1/12 hours from Staten Island/NYC depending on traffic, etc. Tarrytown is a fabulous samll town with lots of great restaurants, shops, antique shops. Halloween is a big event there, as you can imagine. The kids window paint all the store fronts. This year we saw their huge parade. Not always does Legend Weekend coincide with Halloween. Yes, Sleepy Hollow is a real town & the legend of Sleepy Hollow lives on strong! Sunnyside is where Washinton Irving lived & is open for tours. Oh, just browse the website - there's too much to list!! This year we went to Van Cortland Manor. Basically, we saw how people lived 300 years ago. We watched wool be turned into yarn. The girls helped. It's a great destination but plan ahead & reserve a hotel room early!!

Halloween was fabulous. Miss Rebecca was a grim reaper. Miss Nicole was a pirate. It was great. It was a very unseasonably warm evening so we didn't need to cover up their costumes with winter coats!! We headed out Trick or Treating about 5pm, when it started getting dark. Lo and behold, many people were already out of candy. One woman said to me, "Wow, you're out late!" Huh??? WTH?? Nobody tick or treats after dark anymore? Some people were telling me they went out at noon. Puhleeeeezzz. This also means we have a lot of leftover candy because we didn't get many trick or treaters here, either. Weird, imo. BUT, they had fun & that's all that matters.

Enough for now..............
